American online war gamers donate $US20K to RSA
Wargaming America, host of the internet game World of Tanks, is donating $US20,000 to the RSA.
US Army Captain Nicholas Moran will hand over the cheque to RSA National President Don McIver at 11.15am tomorrow morning at a short presentation at Anzac House, Wellington.
The online war gaming company launched an Anzac Day charity drive this April to "honour Kiwi and Australian World of Tanks players", following the success of its Veteran’s Day charity drive in the US in November last year.
A third of the proceeds from the sale of the game’s gold packages across a three day period in April were pledged to Australian returned services charity Legacy, but "in the Anzac spirit" the charity chose to share half of its takings with the RSA.
This year is the 70th anniversary of the arrival of US forces in New Zealand in 1942.

Comments and questions1
For those interested in new business models, World of Tanks is a great example of "freemium" in action. $0 for the software, ongoing content releases every 1-2 months, funded by selling "premium" accounts with small benefits, and numerous micro transactions. Lots of revenue opportunities over lots of players = greater revenue overall.
Also, lots of fun.
