Corporate NZ steps up for Canterbury quake

Corporate New Zealand is stepping up to help Canterbury down the road to recovery with donations and pledges of support worth more than $6.5 million by Monday afternoon.

Fonterra has provided $1 million to the mayoral relief fund and offered personnel and equipment to help the relief efforts in the region.

Fletcher Building will donate $1 million and today was working through the most appropriate way for the support to be delivered.

TelstraClear: $100,000 to the Christchurch Restoration Fund, established by mayor Bob Parker.

BNZ: a $1 million relief programme including $250,000 to the Red Cross, $250,000 to the Salvation army, plus assistance to its own staff and customers.

Telecom: Free payphone calls in Christchurch.

Natural Dairy (NZ) Holdings: The Hong Kong-listed company has pledged $200,000 for relief efforts and was seeking advice from authorities about how this should be distributed.

Kiwibank: Loan holidays and lines of credit for customers. An account has been set up for donations to the Red Cross. The account number is 38-9009-0759479-00 and the account name is Red Cross.

ASB: Red Cross donations account is Canterbury Earthquake Appeal 2010, account number 12-3192-0015998-01.

Pyne Gould Corporation: A pledge of $50,000 to the mayoral relief fund on behalf of subsidiaries MARAC and Perpetual.

ANZ Bank: $1 million to the mayoral relief fund along with assistance to customers.

Westpac: Establishing a Canterbury Care Fund with $1 million in association with the Salvation Army. The bank has also set aside a $1 billion loan pool to assist with rebuilding in the region.

Grabone.co.nz: $5000 to the Christchurch City Mission and is promoting $5 donations to add to its pledge on its website.

Whangarei District Council: $10,000 for the mayoral relief fund.

Foodstuffs: Donated $100,000 and is calling for donations of food at any of its supermarkets around the country to be distributed for those who need it in Canterbury.

Progressive Enterprises: Pledged $100,000 to bolster relief funds and is also collecting donations of food at its supermarkets around the country.

Domino's: On September 13 the chain will donate $1 to the Red Cross from every pizza sold. The company hoped to raise $6000.

The Warehouse: Alongside Warehouse Stationery and the Tindall Foundation is donating $1 million to the mayoral relief fund. Donations will also be accepted at its stores including Warehouse Stationery.

Impressive. Well done corporates (and Whangarei ratepayers). Its great to see you stepping in. Hope to see other corporates stepping up as well.

We should all thank on behalf of the recipients these donations. However, the damage is in the billions, and those that did not have insurance deserve no more than stop-gap support.

The first post is very good and quite correctly applauds any assistance being offered.

The second post is dribble.
Have you ever been on such a low income that you cannot afford a luxury like insurance ?
What a weird ideology to differentiate the need for support on whether one has or has not got insurance.

May be all TV stations should broadcast this message to all TV viewers to encourage more donations!

The council should have the sponsors on their website to thank them for their generosity. I had been trying to find a list like this one for a while - thanks NBR for providing it
