Eden Park redevelopment looking for $40m
Ratepayers are being asked to underwrite about $40 million to cover the cost of redeveloping Eden Park which is being revamped for the 2011 rugby World Cup.
Radio New Zealand reported today that the Government has refused to increase its contribution of $190m from the Government, and has asked councils to cover funding gaps while commercial sponsorship was sought.
Funding for the stadium has been a sticking point for Auckland City Council, which has in the past insisted it won't contribute cash for the project.

Told you so.....
We all knew this was going to happen but I struggle with putting (more) local and federal money into a private entity, call it Eden Park trust. It’s just wrong!!

I too am against putting more public funds into this ill-conceived venture. We rate-payers have been hit more than enough by non-essential developments.

It's time for Jo Blow to get out of Auckland fast. Eden Park on World Cup day will be full of politicians, NZRU officials and hangers on, corporate big wigs and none of the ordinary, little people who pay rates in Auckland will get a look in. That's the reality.
Make the seats $1M
Make the overseas people who are going to see the games pay- make the seats $1m each- who cares no average kiwis will be able to affort a ticket- we are just the suckers paying!!!
Tack it onto the cost of the tickets I say
$40,000,000 divided by 360,000 = $111 added onto each ticket.
(360,000 is 6 games at eden park with 60,000 capacity).
the cost of the tickets now is so expensive, an extra $100 will make no difference to those who can afford it.
Look at the Big Picture
I'm not sure what Auckland City ratepayers are complaining about. There businesses; which is employment, will get the Lions share of the receipts from overseas & national visitors.
Lets not forget, they end up with a world class stadium to attract future business also.
Bleeping about Eden Park
Instead of bleeping about your contributions to Eden Park New Zealand take some action. If have all turned into a spineless bunch of old women. Women run new Zealand now. You can't even afford living with a women without being taken to court.
I read the other day that gays have more rights than Joe Blow....payup or the stadium of bunch of whiners.
