Employment law changes in the pipeline

The government is considering further changes to employment law including the rules for collective bargaining, Parliament was told today.

National MP Pansy Wong, answering questions on behalf of Labour Minister Kate Wilkinson, said several issues were under consideration including, but not limited to, a review of workplace flexibility and changes to collective bargaining.

Labour's Darien Fenton asked whether other issues included changes that could mean employers would be able to set different personal grievance terms for different employees.

Ms Wong said there would be a fair balance between employers and employees, whatever was considered.

Ms Fenton: "Given that she has previously ruled it out, will she now assure the House that the re-introduction of a separate youth minimum age is not an option this government will ever consider?"

Ms Wong: "We do not rule anything out without due consideration that will take into account all the issues for the benefit of employers and employees."
