Fake BP Twitter account gains twice followers of real thing

The oil leak in the Gulf of Mexico is a PR disaster for BP on many levels - and now you can add Twitter as well.

A mock BP account has sprung up on the social network - and through its Onion-esque humour it now has around 8000 followers, or roughly twice that of the energy giant’s official account.

If you’re on Twitter and want to join the fun, follow BPGlobalPR

Or maybe don't. In Private Bin’s professional opinion, BPGlobalPR reached peak humour shortly after its launch, with such un-PR zingers such as:

Please do NOT take or clean any oil you find on the beach. That is the property of British Petroleum and we WILL sue you.

And

Sorry Kevin Costner, if we were interested in what you had to say, we'd rent Tin Cup.

Since then, it's been a little tapped out. BP's official account (BP_America) on the other hand, continues to gush.
