Beck’s shout boosts Kiwi musos, graphic artists

Beck’s beer is launching a series of limited edition labels that will combine the talents of local graphic artists with Kiwi musicians.

Artists Rainbow Monkey, Andrew McLeod and Gavin Hurley will collaborate with Cut Off Your Hands, Ghost Wave and Parallel Dance Ensemble to design labels inspired by a song from each band.

To coincide with the launch, Beck’s has also run a design competition in various educational institutions to find a new artist whose work will be featured on one of the labels as part of the campaign.

The winner will be announced at the official launch on January 26. The bottle marked with the question mark in the accompanying graphic signifies the winning design that will be revealed at the launch.

Beck’s brand manager Kylie McEntee says more than 1.6 million Beck’s bottles will feature an original work of art and those who purchase a promotional 12-pack can also receive four free music downloads powered by Bandit.fm.

The limited edition bottles will be available in stores and bars for three months from February 1.

Proof, if you needed it, that terrible beer is the perfect accompaniment for terrible music.
