Flicks iPhone app hits no. 1; Google does movie listings

The new iPhone application for local movie website Flicks (right) has shot to the number one spot on iTunes’ most downloaded application for the New Zealand market.

Flicks recently launched two new products making its service 100% mobile. Customers can now watch movie trailers, find session times, read reviews and check cinema details from their mobile phone.

The application was the most downloaded for New Zealand after only being available for a few days. Flicks managing director Paul Scantlebury said the application’s instant success is great and proves people have been “ready and waiting” to get our publication direct to their phones.

The company has also recently launched its mobile site (bottom right), which offers movie content to any 3G cellphone. Flicks has partnered with Vodafone to deliver the content.

Google does movies
Meanwhile, Google has launched a new feature that enables users to easily search movie screenings and compare movie session times in your local area.
Google also provides a link to Maps, so users can easily print directions to and from your cinema of choice.

The Google movie onebox, at google.co.nz/movies allows you to see additional information such as movie critics' reviews for movies, and uses ratings from across the internet to create an aggregate star rating. If you don't know what movie you want to see, you can just search "movies" and your city name (or post code) to find the local movies playing in your area.
