Passengers allowed to disembark Air NZ flu flight
Updated 12.30pm: Air New Zealand released the following statement advising all passengers had left the aircraft:
"All passengers on NZ90 from Narita (Tokyo) have now disembarked and unaffected passengers are now clearing Customs and leaving the airport."
Air New Zealand has confirmed that 60 passengers on board a quarantined flight from Tokyo have the flu. The situation is now being handled by the Auckland Regional Public Health Service. The flu strain has not been identified.
An Air New Zealand flight inbound from Tokyo has been quarantined at Auckland Airport with 60 passengers aboard showing flu like symptoms.
Flight NZ90 from Narita, Tokyo has 242 passengers on board.
The flight arrived in Auckland around 9.15am this morning.
Air New Zealand has notified the Auckland Regional Public Health Service.
An Auckland Regional Public Health Service spokeswoman confirmed to NBR that one of its health officers is at the scene and would release more details later.
A warning in late January from the Japanese Ministry of Health advised parents and teachers that January and February were the traditional peaks in Japan's flu season, it advised parents and teachers to be extra vigilant regarding hygiene.
