Free agent rallies behind hospice house sale
Hospice West Auckland is selling its original hospice property in Woodford Ave free of estate agent fees.
Harcourts Blue Fern Realty agent Cynthia Sherwood says because it is such a great cause her agency decided to not charge commission or auction fees.
“Everyone involved in this process is giving their supplies and services free, so all the proceeds will go to the West Auckland Hospice Charitable Trust, which is really great.”
Ms Sherwood says it is a big house with plenty of open areas and plenty of outdoor space.
“It has a beautiful garden – a lovely area out the back, a reflection and relaxation garden room, as well as some bush.”
She says the building might suit someone with an extended family who would like to "breath life" into it.
“The building potentially has a variety of uses, but a purchaser would have to explore that with the council.”
The property is now occupied by Plunket, which have been there since the Hospice outgrew the space and moved to a larger building six years ago.
Hospice West Auckland chief executive Barbara Williams says proceeds of the sale will enable expansion of in-house care facilities.
“We have a huge need to secure funding over and above what we receive each year from the district health board.”
The land was originally given to the hospice in 1988 by then Waitakere mayor Tim Shadbolt.
