Many hundreds of people showed up to a funeral in Auckland for businessman Peter (Pete) Bassett today.

Mr Bassett was the co-founder of electrical contracting company Laser Group, which he began in 1983 with fellow electrician David Clemmett.

He died on Saturday as a result of an accident.

His service, at St Patrick’s Cathedral in Auckland City, was attended by an estimated crowd of 1700 people.

Mr Bassett is survived by his wife Tania and his children Kurt, Blake, Freddie, Charlie and Scarlett.
