Google ignores White House demand, will keep Muslim mocking video on YouTube

Google says it will keep a video mocking Muhammad on YouTube, despite a White House request it be removed.

The clip has sparked violent anti-US protests across the Muslim world.

Google, which owns YouTube, did block the video in Egypt and Libya on Thursday NZ time.

However, the search giant says it blocked it of its own volition, amid concerns it broke the video-sharing sites terms and conditions and controversial content policy, which has a provision for whether a video meets local cultural norms.

Meanwhile, Twitter has yielded to a Manhattan Criminal Court judge and handed over an Occupy Wall Street protestor's tweets to a New York judge.

Twitter argued the messages were private, because Twitter user Malcolm Harris had since deleted them.

Judge Matthew Sciarrino Jr said they had been put into the public domain when Mr Harris posted them to the social network.

Prosecutors think Mr Harris' Twitter messages will shed light on whether police led Occupy protestors off the Brooklyn Bridge's pedestrian pathway and onto a roadway before arresting them (Mr Harris' account of events, which police dispute).

Twitter had been fighting a subpoena since January. The use of social media evidence is seen as precedent setting.

Having seen this video i am concerned that it caused such a violent response. It is disgusting content but it is such a poorly produced piece, that is child like in its construction that it is hard to take it as a serious attack of Islam.

Any critical thinking person would take it as the ranting of a fool and not credit it with an acknowledgement.

You are of course correct but on the matter of the political doctrine that is islam, the recent events have been brilliantly commented in the Sydney Morning Herald opinion piece by Peter Fitzimons

and on the whaleoil blog

When havereligious extremists ever been critical thinkers?

The radical muslims are not offended by this amateurish video at all, they are looking for any excuse to whip themselves into a frenzy. They love it.

The issue boils down to free speech and our way of life.
I have heard commentary that the video was poorly produced and so on.
Yet we hear claims it has pushed the muslim world into violence.
However, Al Queda says it had been planning the attacks/protests for months.
After all, the video had been out for some months too and it is curious that all the trouble happened to coincide with 9-11 rather than weeks ago. This suggests a greater degree of long term planning than an instant backlash to a poorly made film.
Yet, the Obama regime still seeks to blame this film maker.
So, in what used to be the Land of the Free, we have some guy visited in the middle of the night and questioned like America has degenerated to a communist state, or worse..
But, doesn't America have free speech? Isn't the First Amendment, the cornerstone of America's constitution.
Yet the Obama regime seeks to harass some filmaker because he said things that discomforted the Obama regime.
Is the Obama regime succumbing to or rather implement Sharia Law when the US president on his inauguration pledged to uphold the US constitution.
If the president opposed the cornerstome of America's constitution, is he really fit for office?
The whole affair causes further discomfort for the Obama regime when you analyse matters more fully.
Top Obama bundler Bill Maher has branded the Koran a "hateful book" and has made his own film criticising Islam. Yet, no muslims riots over his words or his movie, and the Obama regime has yet to send the police to this top Democratic Party contributor.
Obama has made much political capital over killing Osama Bin Laden, he has released classified material surrounding this as Hollywood prepares to make a movie based on his killing.
That should upset the muslim world too, but is Obama going to arrest that film maker, I doubt it.
Furthermore, if we bend our laws and our way of life because of violent muslim protest, won't they simply demand more and more. The danegeld or jizya will always need paying.
What we have seen is the humiliation of Obama's Middle East strategy.
All those who believed in an Arab Spring must surely see what has been created in its place, an Islamic winter.
We have seen the Islamic Street still seeing the USA as the Great Satan , despite Obama's earlier claims it would change with him in charge, because he looked more them, that previous troubles were all George Bush's fault. Yet, the islamic world sees a weak leader, one who conducted an 'apology tour' to atone for the alleged sins of george W Bush. They have exploited Obama's weakness.
We also see what happens when you have sufficient numbers of muslims in your country- hence the violence in Sydney and protests in London.
For the sake of our own freedoms, do we want more of followers of this ideology into our countries? I say no.
And we need a leader of the free world who actually believes in freedom and will defence the American way of life, rather than apologise for it.
It is also interesting to see the Onion produced a rather offensive cartoon featuring God, Jesus Christ and other religious figures, but no-one was killed because of it.
The point being that muslims see themselves as special, they seek to rule, and dominate. When will the West see the enemy that is Islam and when will we finally develop an adequate response to it.
Appeasement, as Obama as exemplified, does not work.

we are all branches and twigs of the same tree..there is no enemy but rather brothers and we must embrace it..may peace prevail

Sticks and stones will break our bones but names will never hurt us.

Come on Muslims, stop being so over sensitive. If you people keep acting like this when anyone says something you dont agree with then its only going to be a mastter of time before something even bigger and nastier happens and that would be tragically wrong.

Being a muslim, I can't agree with you more... May the muslim masses attain wisdom to understand all of this is being done to intimidate them and it is working!

I am ashamed to say that we muslims 'fail' at life. Bunch of hypocrites!

why are these people/religion such a world wide problem ?

I just watch the Innocence of Muslims on you tube.video

It is so badly made it is comical to a westerner so would not be seen as a big deal. Have a laugh. But perfectly vicious in insulting what the foundations of Muslim faith are lock, stock and barrel. Plus mocks Muhammad as ultimate and most upto date message that super cedes all before.

Mankind falls for it every time. My tribe is better than your tribe and the hopeless game of tit for tat. It's a PR disaster for a desperate Muslim image further pushed as the common view of ‘backward or plain nutters’

No matter what God or not. The only judging is seen in our deaths. So take your bets please. So live knowing plenty of good to be done from whoever from whatever religious view or not.
