Hikoi for Hone starts quietly, and fades
The Ratana Church's "Hikoi for Hone" has got off to a quiet start in its bid to pump up support for Mana Party candidate Hone Harawira a week before the Te Tai Tokerau by-election next weekend.
The hikoi to support Mr Harawira and his newly formed Mana Party began at the Kai Maia Ratana Church in south Auckland at first light today with 12 people on a bus for its trip north to Kaitaia.
By the time the bus got through Waitakere in west Auckland, the numbers had dropped to six, said Ratana minister Kereama Pene.
"There are about six of us heading up," he said, as the bus left Warkworth north of Auckland.
He said they were getting good support.
"All the horns are beeping along the towns although I have got to say Warkworth was a bit quiet this morning."
The hikoi began as polls showed Mr Harawira and Labour candidate Kelvin Davis were neck-and-neck, with Mr Harawira rating 41 percent support and Mr Davis 40 percent.
Mr Pene said the northern arm of the Ratana movement believed Mr Harawira was the only candidate who knew what issues Maori people faced.
Mr Harawira forced the by-election when he resigned from Parliament last month after leaving the Maori Party in February.

They'll make it to the nearest pub, where they'll have a liquid lunch all afternoon, spending all their gas money on the pokies - then demand WINZ / treaty settlement negotiators pay for gas and a dial-a-driver and the lunch tab they had to incur supporting Hone.
Either that, of they'll arrive in Taupo and finally realise it's not Whangarei - but pleased to have help and support from the Legalise Marijuana Party during such trying times and strenuous politicing.
It might be too late to register, but at least they know where they're going!
You are right on the money my friend.
Man! I thought I was a redneck but this racist drivel is appalling. We all have to live in this country together and vile stereotyping like this can only rip an already tattered social fabric further. 'Labourlover-Not' really should be ashamed of itself.
"Vile stereotyping"... well - if the shoe fits...
Don't shoot the messenger because you don't like the message.
Besides, I was only talking about Hone's "supporters" not any particular race - but interesting you draw some comparrison? Now whose stereotyping?
Lovely photo of mr harawira throwing up mongrel mob signs.

[It's paper, scissors, rock actually - Editor]
In response to Labourlover-not .
Well said. Your comments are so true.
Not surprising to see ONLY 6 people from the WHOLE Ratana Movement going "supposedly" up north.
And this is extra harsh on my part but I suppose they need any excuse to avoid a days' work.
Have you got nothing better to do than maori bash all day?
At least they're not sitting at they're computers slinging racist comments as fast as they can type!
Democracy people.
This is really funny. I wonder how many of the "Hikoi for Hone" six were family members. I think history will only remember him for his racism and one of politics all time dumb moves. (calling the byelection) Muldoons drunken "doesnt give my opponents much time etc hic! would be another one.
I hope all the rednecks who have contributed to this post eat their words when Hone wins. As a voter from Te Tai Tokerau, and none of you are from what I can tell, I can tell you that he enjoys massive support and that he will be re-elected come next Saturday. I'll be watching for what you have to say, then.
We know he'll win because a majority of his constituents are racist too.

Brilliant stuff Labourlover.
To your detractors ... in the words of Jack Nicholson (A few Good Men).... "You want the truth... you can't handle the truth!"
Fact is, that at the rate they are dwindling, there will only be one person left by the time the hikoi hits Kaitaia.
At which stage, does the hikoi then get reclassified as a hiccup.?
What a shame NBR forums are filled with such low grade comment on a regular basis. Not good for the so-called "authority" to continually attract a one-eyed, rag tag team of intolerant tirade peddlars

Oh, that's a bit hard on poor Hone the Maori.
hone's real name is john isn't it?
You're right - but it gives us a bit of humour while we wait for NBR to start an on-line chat room...
Imagine the guest personalities NBR could have at their end responding to the readers questions....
Editor can you tell us what happened to the other six that started out?
Were they only wanting a ride to the pub, to the nearest Winz or to the court house?
Hone should offer FREE TATTOOs for votes
even though i find Phoney Harawira and Mummy pretty vile i feel the downright puerile and racsist posts on here even worse..
Most of you in here are calling Hone racist; OMG, the remarks that are made in here are racist azzzzzz. Get over it you clowns....that is exactly why Hone is doing this, because all you hidden racists out there have only got the guts to put those racist remarks in here because you can't be seen! At least Hone is seen and speaks out aout how he feels, and it is not racism....come on all you gutless wonders - do the same as Hone - show your face and make those racist comments! Kia kaha Hone!
I must add that perhaps the 6 people on the bus comprised of a mum and dad(of voting age and dad probably being the driver) and 4 children(not of voting age).
It certainly will be interesting to hear Hone's rants when he admits defeat after the by election. But still he will probably blame the pakeha like him and his family have always done. And I should know as I have known this family for over 20 years.
W.A.O.P.H.M.T.AE We have many people on here that need to humble themselves. I see many dont like Hone Harawira. Mr Harawira is to open and straight up and thats why people get all up in the air about him in other words' Truth hurts' . Blessings to you Hone, keep up the good mahi.
He's a raciest & divisive (hardly what most people want from a politician) if I said Black bludging/thieving MoFO's Then I'm sure the opposite reaction from Maori would be..... or is that being straight up up because data from WINZ/prisons would support the comment?
Go get a life!!
or is that the 'Truth hurts' as you so eloquently put it?
Hone John Hatfield Harawira is the biggest redneck in the country. No wonder the bus is empty, only like minded racist rednecks support him. Kind of sums up his electorate, & is yet another good reason to abolish the racist maori electoral seats.
HA! Funny how little fat racist hypocrites who call Hone racist sit around spouting off the useless drivel they have heard the media say... having worked with media I can assure you that stories are written from an angle that gets the most interest. AT most worker protests and strikes you'll usually have between 6 - 50 people out there.
There is a lot of support and you should do some solid research on the stats for those on WINZ benefits, you'll find that the majority on these benefits are not Maori, infact if you go the DoL website you'll see there is a huge percentage of Māori who work and study at the same time... I know a few 17yr old who would kung fu you verbally.
It's not racisim to want to go by your Māori name, it's pride in your identity. How many ppl in the world change their names...
It is not racism to want to make sure your consitutents who voted you in get the best ut of you because you are there by virtue of their votes.
It is not racism to identify strongly with your own race and to want to help them.
And further... not that you would know this... I'll tell you a secret... It was Māori, Pasifika and Pakeha people who all kept telling Hone over and over again to start a new party. Hone had to push for a by-election to be able to get a new party in on such a short time frame for the general election... of course you wouldn't know this.. you don't know anything... get a JOB instead of bitc**ng...
When Hone wins we will see a change in the Westminster system... I am sure of this.. Cant wait for it, I welcome it as do many others.
What works for Māori works for everyone and FYI, I know thousands of Māori who have never been on a benefit, who don't drink or gamble. so your stereo type shows a lack of intellect and maturity and you should rightfully feel as useless as you are because your small mind is obviously ill equipped to expand and be educated. I don't pity you, however I do pity those who are unfortunate enough to have you in their life probably suffocating them and holding them back in that little small minded mentality.
MANA - Jo
Delusional MANA-Jo think about the detail... who's going to want to work with Hone? He'll be like Hugh Heff without viagra ... 1 vote of nothingness... impotent .... hopeless... a paddle-less waka a drift....
"When Hone wins we will see a change in the Westminster system... " script for a TUI Billboard
And I suppose you were one of those people who thought the earthquakes would stop...
Not that I care what you think, I just love to have the last word...
I wouldn't have said what I have said unless I was absolutely sure. You don't have your ear to the ground and therefore your opinion is one opinion of worthless nothingness.
great to see you're a realist ..... change the Westminster system cough ... with what a note from mummy or will the puppet master be in tow?
Blah...
Oh and really... who gives a fu*k what Hone is doing with his hand, looks like he's saying three to me... at least he's not endorsing planking right after someone died from doing it stupidly. Doh!
Closing time - and all the nutters come out in support of this clown. Or is it, the hikoi finally arrived up North in time for these comments?
Well that was all three of his supporters from the mama movement. Hone not racist? HAHAHAHA!!!
LOOK HERE YOU IDIOT PAKEHA AND OTHER HATERS. IM A NEW ZEALAND WHITE MAN! SHUT YOUR MOUTH AND VOTE FOR THE MAN, IM NOT A NUTTER EITHER IM A RETIRED BUSINESSMEN - THIS MAN HAS THE POTENTIAL TO BENEFIT THE UPPER NORTH MAORI AND NON MAORI. PEOPLE UP THERE ARE STRUGGLING WHILE US PAKEHA ARE LIVING IT UP. I SUPPORT CHANGE-AND OLD LABOUR ARE SCREWING IT UP. VOTE HONE .
AND FOR YOU MAORI UP NORTH -ROW THE ONE BOAT- SUPPORT THE ONE MAN AND YOU WILL ALL BE BETTER OFF. MY ADVICE TO YOU ALL.
Now that Hone John Hatfield Harawira has said that those on a benefit will need to work for their dole he'll be out of luck. Not only did he quit his job unnecessarily, but he's done the one thing that'll stop all his no hope bludging followers from voting him back in. All labour needs to do is rubbish Hone the slave driver and it'll all be over.
next thing I'll hear is he's planning to solve who murdered the Kahui twins
Told you so!
