Hollywood Oscars: Who won, who lost and who should have

BEST PICTURE

What won: THE HURT LOCKER
What will win: AVATAR
What should win: AVATAR
Academy members could afford to ignore the biggest box office film of the year, if not of all time (on an inflation-adjusted basis), in favour of an arthouse movie that hardly anyone has seen except the critics

BEST DIRECTOR

Who won: KATHRYN BIGELOW
Who will win: KATHRYN BIGELOW
Who should win: KATHRYN BIGELOW
James Cameron has been magnanimous to his former spouse, the first woman to win this award with a small but perfectly formed movie (to the few who have seen it)

BEST ACTRESS

Who won: Sandra Bullock
Who will win: Sandra Bullock
Who should win: Sandra Bullock
She may have won a Rassie for What About Steve but The Blind Side (not yet released in NZ) confirms Bullock can move from comedy roles to drama and is a worthy ahead of Meryl Streep

BEST ACTOR

Who won: Jeff Bridges
Who will win: Jeff Bridges
Who should win: Morgan Freeman
Again, sentiment was with Bridges for his alcoholic country singer turn in Crazy Heart over Freeman playing Nelson Mandela

A hot favourite among Hollywood insiders, she won for her role as the abusive mother in Precious

i wont ever watch the show again. its to damn political. I was a great show till the final scene. first woman. yes she is good but i go to the movies once a year when there is a great movie out. I hear it from my employees. Avatar should have one. I wont mention that im a vet. she is getting sued and you dont care for plagerism. where are we going in this country. yes its not confirmed but what if it true and how black will your eye be. i usta go to the movies 3 to 4 times a week now its once a year if your lucky. why cause im sick of your interfering in politics when you are to entertain us. beliefs one way or another in the actors or your point of view is your opinion. dont push it. hence netflix and all the other ways of watching your movies other than the movie theatre. I would really ask you to do me a favor, shut them up and can i watch a movie in peace.

John Key and Mr H Clark should have both won leading actress roles in GlobalWarmingGate. Nick Smith, for comedy.

Mike Cullen - Best economic horror movie ( released under the name " Smoke 'n' mirrors.
Watson and Hochin - Best fantasy movie ( "Houdini")
Filin Goff -Best "Who dunnit" ( well it wasn't Filin was it who sent SAS to fight for that awful regime in Afghanistan- he was only Foreign Minister.)
Filin Goff - Best comedy for "Axe the Tax" - having stated that if elected he won't !

I don't know if you've seen it yet Nevil, but Hurt Locker was a better movie than Avatar in its script and story - it's the best Iraq war movie I've seen so far. Avatar really should have had a better script and story (Cameron has done better in the past with Aliens, The Abyss & Terminators 1 & 2); but what was amazing about Avatar was that you just didn't care about its shortcomings because it was so incredibly, immersively awesome.

PS I'm really looking forward to the upcoming Afghanistan doco Restrepo, by Vanity Fair war correspondent Sebastian Junger http://www.restrepothemovie.com/
