Iggy Pop's Orcon Facebook fan page hits 2000

Punk's granddaddy Iggy Pop has 2,612 fans on Orcon’s Facebook page to promote its next generation broadband campaign.

The campaign launched last week and is seeking eight Kiwi musicians to audition for Mr Pop’s remake of his classic song “The Passenger”. The remake is part of the internet provider’s campaign to market its new network.

The auditions will be conducted online and Mr Pop will select the appropriate musos from his studio in Miami from the posted audio clips.

Orcon posted the following comment on Mr Pop’s fan page today: “A massive welcome to all our new fans. This is a quick note that you only have until noon on the 22nd of October to get your audition in for your chance to play live (via Orcon broadband) with Iggy Pop. The competition is open to any and all New Zealanders, even if you aren't yet one of our wonderful customers. So get recording.”

On 30 October, the selected New Zealand band members will connect to Mr Pop’s Miami studio. Auditions started yesterday. The final advertisement will be available for viewing on Orcon’s website and on TV on the week commencing 16 November.

Mr Pop has previously promoted insurance in the UK.
