Infratil chief executive Lloyd Morrison is stepping down from the business for a period of medical leave, after being diagnosed with a form of leukaemia for which he has started treatment.

Mr Morrison would also take leave of absence from his positions as director of Infratil, TrustPower and Auckland International Airport, Infratil chairman David Newman said today.

Chief operating officer Marko Bogoievski had been appointed as chief executive for the period of the medical leave, effective immediately.

Mr Bogoievski had also been appointed with immediate effect as a director of Infratil.

"It is important for Lloyd to focus on his health and family. Infratil is very well placed with the strength of its businesses and the depth in the management team," Mr Newman said.

"Our thoughts are with Lloyd and his family and I am sure he will fight this illness with the same determination and passion he has shown in the business."
