It's Love: Telecom and Heineken play the same song - literally

UPDATE: Telecom yanks Chris Knox clip

In a promo video just released to promote Telecom's new logo, chief executive Paul Reynolds and others chirpily create self-expressive symbols, backed by "It's Love", a track from alternative music legend Chris Knox.

Many Americans will already be familiar with Mr Knox's tune - for Heineken has already used "It's Love" in a campaign recently launched in the US.

Beer swilling phone users may get a little confused, but for Mr Knox - recovering from a recent stroke - it'll be raining royalties.

"It's Love" is the second track from the grandfather of NZ punk to be used in a commercial. His "Not Given Lightly" has been a Vogel's mainstay.

It's a Kiwi song...

Chris... a Kiwi song, a Kiwi (ish) telco. The TNZ use has the moral high ground.....

It's not like its being used

It's not like its being used on an ad - its an internal video isn't it? What's the problem.

Knox ftw

Well, if Telecom does decide to go with the Chris Knox song for their public TVCs, it's a very cool association for them, compared to their previous lame choices of Cat Stevens or the Beatles, for example.

swilling or illing

"Beer swilling phone users may get a little confused..." HOW? the Heineken ad ran in the US, not here. No confusion. It won't be raining royalties for Chris Knox - use for an internal one-off use aint much dough. Bit flippant, Mr Keall.

[Videos originating from many countries can be compared via the wonders of the internet. I assume Heineken paid Chris Knox well - CK]
