Comments
Universities vs Tertiary Sector
The comments about the Tertiary Sector relate to the sector as a whole "particularly below degree-level" rather than to Universities.
Re: Education
Sound sensible to me! Especially regarding secondary school
ah not so quick
take IT as an example. Industry wants MSCE, CCIO, ITIL, Sigma Six, ERP specifics but what do Universities do... not this stuff. The skirt around academic and theory and dont want to get their hands dirty with practical. Essentially Polytechs and Universities should merge
John Key's speech
John Key has shown himself to be a man of straw.
Good Ideas
Sounds like some good solid ideas.
New Zealand will be a third world country or a state of Australia if you don't accept the brutal truth.
There is no education for trades that are relevant to a developing country.
Why do we need university grown IT pros when our communications network is made up of relics from the 70's,80's and 90's and we get bent over when it comes to the bill.
You pay a university to train 100 Electrcial Engineers to design and construct power stations but all the Electrcians have gone to Australia and we still have blackouts and cant meet demand.
You offer wind farms and hydro schemes to power the nation but the people concerned about the environment would prefer less noise polution than carbon polution and save snails only to open cut for coal.
If you don't develop your resources the way you want then you should expect someone else to realise their potential and see you as the major obsticle.
We need to provide for the less fortunate but the less fortunate agree than packing shelves, maintenace or process work is below them but then turn around and complain that companys move our nations factorys to China, well if they can work for nothing I sure you would survive on $10 an hour.
It doesn't mater wether you black, white, portirician, hatian or part of the zulu nation, you live in this country and use its services, so you only get out what you put in and being on the benifit for 18 months doesn't count.
So far
So far it is one hell of a lot better, than 9 years of 9/10's of sweet nothing, other than giveaways.
Look forward to the rise in Gst,20% ideal, no one escapes that, the wealthy and the tourists all contribute to the welfare state, even the bludgers, it is the fairest of all taxes.
Sorry John, but something has to be done on 2nd home, other than the family home, welfare demands that.
Cheers.
Wills.
