A strike involving more than 70 workers for lawnmower manufacturer Masport is set to continue next week.

Engineering, Printing and Manufacturing Union (EPMU) and Moulders Union members at Masport's manufacturing plant in Auckland's Mt Wellington walked off the job on Wednesday in response to a below-inflation pay offer, EPMU national secretary Andrew Little said.

Workers who are on a four-day week were off today but Mr Little said the strike would resume on Monday.

A meeting was scheduled between union delegates and general manager Steve Hughes for Monday afternoon.

Mr Little said earlier members had been offered a 3 percent pay rise which "in the current inflation environment...is effectively a pay cut".

"Our members clearly aren't going to accept that," he said.

"There's a lot of talk about raising New Zealanders' wages and closing the gap with Australia, but sometimes that means workers need to take strike action to make sure they get a decent offer."

Masport have not commented on the dispute.
