More vacancies for $100,000+ jobs
The demand for high-paid senior executives is on the rise. According to New Zealand jobs-listing website Seek, listings for positions paying more than $100,000 a year are up 30% on last year.
Seek New Zealand general manager Janet Faulding says more job seekers are also searching by salary at the $100,000 and above level. IT and technology jobs have the largest number of high-paying advertised positions.
Industries with the most high-paying advertised jobs
1. IT & Technology
2. Engineering
3. Accounting
4. Sales
5. Healthcare & Medical
In the major cities
Perhaps unsurprisingly, the large city of Auckland not only has the largest number of high salary job advertisements – more than double the number in any of the other regions. There has also been a 25% increase in Auckland listings from last year.
Demand for high-level workers is also up in Canterbury – 125% since August last year.
While Wellington total job demand is only up 16%, there is a 98% increase in listings for high-paying jobs in the government and defence sectors.
Ms Faulding says May has proven to be a peak month for top job listings. “Not only was it a top month in 2010, but we noted a 17% increase on last year’s performance.”

$100k for a experienced professional is actually not that much anymore...about manager with some experience level.
Agreed.
It would be interesting to see the figures for jobs at $150k+ and $200k+.
I suspect at $200k + a 100% increase in vacancies means two jobs advertised instead of one.
With Govt employee's earning over $500K, and a richlist where you have to have $15m to get in...... I suspect there are more than 2 jobs over 200K in NZ...........More likely 2000 jobs.
Yep. Usually found in pointless govt departments.
In Aussie seek has the $150k bracket.
As stated about NZ should have a $200k bracket - $100k is nothing.
Could not even get a house in new lynn & a new BMW everyother year on less than that!!
NZ seek does have a 200k+ bracket
Pretty mediocre now considering what that converts to and can be earned 3 hours flying away.
Where the equivalent of a 150k job in Auckland is advertised as 85k in Wellington it does make one wonder! Public service jobs only pay when you're at the feed end of the trough!
There are also a lot of very skilled people taking complex jobs in the NFP sector that would be paid a lot more in the private sector - not all from fat govt departments.
$100k is still a lot of money, but doesn't really indicate anything these days. I have 8 yrs experience in a big company and on $120k, and I am no where near management level. Equivalent role in Australia is around $160-180 + super + 6 weeks leave...hmmmmm.
Also, 100k in Auckland is probably the equivilent of 80k somewhere else in NZ (when you consider your mortgage, etc)
Oh, I should add, that is AUS$160-AUS$180 (not NZD) in Melbourne, Sydney or Brisbane
whats the tax rate in Oz?? Looking at going over myself but was told I'd get a shock at what the take home would be after super and tax - was offered $150K OZ and on $120K here. Advice appreciated

The highest tax rate in Australia is high 40s but I think it doesn't kick in until $150k.
My advice?
GO!
Officially the tax rate in Aus is higher than in NZ (as the politicians keep reminding) but truth is Aussie accountants are light years ahead of the NZ 'bookkeepers' and everyone has an accountant. Aus has a generous and diverse range of concessions which effectively means they get to keep far more than kiwis at years end. Any bean counter who dosn't perform with quality returns and advice soon gets the shove. Get over for a week or so and check out the supermarkets and eateries, Everyones happy. Two countries seem to have survived the worlds woes so far Canada and Aus. I'd happily live in either.
