NBR luxury escape features in Starship fundraiser
A luxury European holiday originally won by Financial Markets Authority chairman Simon Allen will go under the virtual hammer to raise money for Starship children's hospital.
Mr Allen won the $50,000 prize in June, in a draw of National Business Review subscribers.
But he decided to give it away to raise money for Starship, relinquishing the 28-night luxury escape including return Air New Zealand business premiere flights to London.
Mr Allen's prize will now star in Starship's Spring Clean, the hospital's high-profile fundraising campaign which runs during September.
Mr Allen told NBR in June he was always going to give the prize away. The challenge was picking the charity.
He hoped the prize helps pay for a new Prismaflex continuous dialysis machine for Starship's paediatric intensive care unit.
Starship Foundation chief executive Brad Clark delivered a “huge thank you” to Mr Allen and NBR.
Auction items in the Starship fundraiser include a walk-on role on TV show Shortland Street, a basketball game day experience with the Breakers and Scott Dixon-signed racing gear.
