Obama forgoes celebratory cigarette in favour of ... a tweet

Private Bin is guessing US President Barack Obama really, really wanted to celebrate his historic healthcare reform victory with a sly cigarette.

But its seems - unless he can message from his souped-up BlackBerry with one hand (hmmn, possible) - that The One foreswore a ciggy in favour of a thoroughly modern form of euphoria: a tweet.

No sooner had the landmark legislation passed than Mr Obama sent the following from his Twitter account:

Now lets see if he can break the internet. (And somebody check his sleeves for celebratory nicotine patches.)

Meanwhile, One News showed it had truly moved beyond the charter.

The state broadcaster chose to show a Tiger Woods puff piece ahead of Obama's history-making moment.

Though, to be fair, the Woods interview did include one of the worst-advised double entendres in modern media history as the golf superstar revealed he had been "getting back to my old roots".

Yeah I laughed out loud with his "back to my roots" comment. Nice. And yes, showing Tiger over Obama shows TVNZ's priorities which are no longer news focused, but entertainment puff stories, to hopefully boost ratings.
