IN PICTURES: Truck ploughs into Newmarket Porsche dealership
An out-of-control truck ploughed into Continental Car Service's Porsche dealership in Newmarket, Auckland, this afternoon.
Passersby were quick to post photos of the incident to Twitter (right).
The incident reportedly involved a truck and trailer swerving to avoid a people mover executing a U-turn, then spun out of control and hit a second truck that was unloading a Porshe at the luxury car yard.
NBR ONLINE understands seven vehicles were damaged in the smash.
Continental Car Services did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
A reported 10 police cars, four fire engines, multiple ambulances and a crowd of spectators added to the drama, with one witness saying the area looked like the scene of a major car crash.
At least one person was initially trapped inside a vehicle after the midday accident.
Police told NBR three people were taken to hospital with "moderate injuries" – the driver of the truck-and-trailer, the driver of the people mover and the passenger in the people mover.
Great South Rd was shut early afternoon, causing traffic snarls.
Police said the road has been reopened.

As EQC etc would say...pre existing damage and age related depeciation, you might get a cheque in a couple of years...lets say we give you half and call it quits.
I wonder if the guy/girl in the people mover was insured?
Is the truck and trailer unit also to blame - should he have just plowed into the person at fault rather than involve innocents?
The way this story is written up is really starting to annoy me. The people mover (van) was not doing a U turn it was turning into the car dealership's driveway so it could turn around. As the van slowed down to turn, the "truck" was going too quick and couldn't stop in time so it swerved right into the van as it was trying to turn....
The truck driver got it wrong. He was told to park on the porch....
The police blocked access to Gt South Rd northbound at Market Rd around 1km from the accident. The police would not let anyone in including access to the blood bank building within 100m of the blocked intersection ie 900m from the accident for over 3 hrs
Well done to the NZ police for causing hardship to all the business, motels and the blood bank so far from the accident scene.
Only 3 hours, lucky it wasnt a fatal then they would have shutdown the whole of Newmarket for the day. Cant help comparing that with a sad scene I witnessed on a German autobahn. Efficient, fast and a return to normal no messing. The poor boys in blue have to fill in so much paperwork, consult manuals and lets not forget an obligatory powhiri, no commonsense anymore.
I wonder if the Porsche dealership will tell potential customers of new porsche's that they've been involved in an accident. Best to order a new one from the factory with your own options to be sure.
@Anonymous
The Porsches that suffered minor damage where both 996 versions of 911's, therefore at least 8yrs old; they were not new. The yellow 911 was not being delivered, in fact it was never on the transporter at all. The black Holden Barina which WAS on the transporter fell off with the transporter driver still sitting inside it. The tray of the transporter was pushed under the yellow Porsche which was parked outside the dealership.
I was there, I saw it.
I'm not surprised no-one answered NBR staffs phone call, we were all kinda busy.
"...with one witness saying the area looked like the scene of a major car crash."
NBR staff writers still up to their usual standard then.
"NBR ONLINE understands seven vehicles were damaged in the smash."
1 truck and trailer
1 people mover
1 car transporter
2 Audis
2 BMWs
2 Porsches
1 Holden Barina
= 10 vehicles involved.
