United States President Barack Obama has invited Prime Minister John Key to Washington for an official visit early next year.
Mr Key met with Mr Obama in Singapore over the weekend.
They previously met while Mr Key was in New York in September.
Next year's official visit may be timed to coincide with an April conference on nuclear proliferation and security which Mr Key has also been invited to.
Mr Key confirmed he had received the invitation and planned to take it up.

Nuclear is Notclear
Good , at last NZ stance on nuclear issues is recognised . The US appears to be doing everything to get away from its biggest kid on the block image . Maybe the current US Administration will see some sense and stop being negative towards the NZ stance . Obama is open-minded enough to see that nuclear proliferation is a real threat to world peace irrespective of who is involved . The fact that Iran and Pakistan , both unstable places, have or are developing nuclear weapons is a problem , and NZ can be shown as a beacon of sense.
Its good for us
This is excellent . It moves away from Labour bloodymindedness about the US , which I never understood . New Zealand stands a chance of getting access to the worlds biggest market . JK must see Obama twice next year if necessary. The US must be an ally of ours 100%, just like OZ .
Clark in Drag!
My perception of Obama is Clark in drag,JK better be quick getting over there,Obama LIKE JIMMY CARTER WILL BE A ONE TERM PRESIDENT,the USA scribes in the know are forecasting it.
wake up people
is he going to sign the one world government agreement. yep
us relations
we should drop the no-nuclear dogma given that nuclear power is the way to go for the future
we have spent more than enough time admiring lange's ill advised stance!
