RAW DATA: Bernard Hickey's complaint to the government

Email from Bernard Hickey to Nick Bryant, press secretary to Earthquake Recovery Minister Gerry Brownlee:

July 30

We'd like to register our surprise and disappointment that NBR chose to flagrantly flout the 6pm embargo on the Christchurch CBD announcement this evening.

Its first report went up at 5.17 pm, a full 43 minutes before the embargo time that other online publishers had agreed to.

What sanctions will be applied government-wide to the NBR?

I would expect they would be be banned from Budget and RBNZ lockups in future, given their open contempt for an agreement that other media have agreed to.

Kind regards,
Bernard Hickey

Not sure about the ins and outs of this but it seems Bernard is losing the plot lately - just look at his recent rants about "intergenerational theft" which have plumbed new depths of hysteria and hyperbole.

Will he be spending more time with the family soon?

You ask, "Will he be spending more time with the family soon?"
I presume that would depend on how his Doctor thinks he has progressed.
I'm afraid this incident may well set that back a day or so, but then I'm not his doctor.
