Reaction hardens to Goff's "Pork Bone" speech
Labour leader Phil Goff was today accused of dragging New Zealand into the gutter of racial politics as reaction hardened to his criticism of National and the Maori Party.
Mr Goff said yesterday the Government made shabby, cynical deals with the Maori Party to get the emissions trading scheme through Parliament.
He used the term "pork bone politics" to describe negotiations he said were held in secret and favoured big Maori corporates.
"We can choose our future based on principle and with the interests of all New Zealanders at heart," he told a Grey Power meeting.
"Or we can have a country where one New Zealander is turned against another, Maori against Pakeha, in a way that Labour strongly rejects."
Maori Party co-leader Pita Sharples said today he was deeply offended and aggrieved by the Labour leader's comments.
"That speech has taken us back to the very worst days of politicians playing the race card to try and increase their popularity and I hope New Zealanders won't buy into it," Dr Sharples said.
"I guess people who want to drag us back into the gutter of racial politics will line up behind Phil Goff. I'm hoping the Maori members of his caucus will not do so."
Dr Sharples' attack was the strongest so far since Mr Goff made his controversial speech, seen by his opponents as a desperate move to gain publicity and improve Labour's poor poll ratings.
The Maori Party co-leader defended the ETS agreement and said it would benefit all Maori, not just five iwi which had previously gained treaty settlements.
"Trying to portray this as a special deal for these five iwi is a terrible lie designed to whip up racial hatred -- a terrible, terrible thing to do in this day and age," he said.
Senior cabinet minister Gerry Brownlee yesterday described it as "a masterpiece of confusion and hypocrisy".

Your article is light on whose attitude is hardening towards Goff's comments. Seems the headline outweights the article which only reports on Dr Sharples response to Goff's comments.
From my point of view Goff is right. His comments were nothing like Don Brash's Orewa speech.
Doctor Pita Sharples yeh spin doctor. He makes secretive agreements with national, while the whole of NZ looks on. Then denies it (If you like !?!?) Mention the word Moari and he'll acuse you of racism. He's a trick
Last time I looked there was only one human race. I think everyone needs to pull their heads in...
I say yes Mr Goff is right, it are those shabby deals that makes a mockery of Democracy and sets people against the present government. I think this Pri-minister is a Yoke.
Is it not about time that we say this country is one nation with one law for all without special deals for some sections of the community.
goff is pretty dim. if desires attention and popularity he'd call for the emissions scam and fraud to be stopped.
this country is fast descending into those who receive privilege based on race. I've never been a Labour supporter but have to admit that Goff has it about right. Rich for Sharples to be playing the race card, yet again! Whenever someone says something critical of Maori, they're a racist. Let's ask the government about the backroom negotiations taking place on ownership of the Auckland region - its volcanic cones and harbours. Now that's scary.
totaly agree labour has to do something to save the country,
Not once has Phil Goff ever been honest enough to admit that the current Government was voted in due to voter dissatisfaction with Labour performance. Prime Minister John Key is charting a course through some pretty tough times at present. While he is not keeping everyone happy, many comments have been made that 'he is doing his best'. Kiwis are made up of many different races and cultures.
John Key is not telling them how to run their lives via legislation, like the previous government has allowed. The race card will continually surface, while short sighted people struggle for popularity.
Seems Goff is becoming more statseman like as he gets a grip in the job, and Key is becoming another Helen! This is the most disgusting racist deal we have seen in quite a while, and for what benefit to the Nation?
We ditched FFP for MMP because of what we saw as the continual abuse of power by a single party ruling for 3 years. My fear is that National's caving in to the Maori Party's self serving actions will so turn off a majority of New Zealanders that it will result in many voting for the return of FFP so that the ruling party won't have to do such deals.
unfortunately I think Phil Goff is correct [I was a strong National supporter] This country is becoming too dominated by political decisions being made that effect all new zealanders yet clearly favour Maori. When is enough enough and we all genuinely work towards a unified people where advantages are not given based on your race and heritage. When are we going to accept that not every difficult decision shuld include seperate and specific compensation for Maori while other New Zealanders have to just accept what they are given.
I also find it a little disturbing that the Maori Party are concerned Labour are stirring up a racial issue when they themselves have chosen to do nothing over our man Hone and his remarks that grossly offended more decent New Zealanders than they can imagine
Goff has done what no other politiican has been brave tp do. Well done good statesman. New Zealand thanks you for the truth. One people , one nation.
MMP is not working. It's a very poor state of affairs when legislation can be rammed through by buying the vote of a minority party. Race has got nothing to do with it.
Much as I dislike Goff, the real truth is that NZ is a racist nation with an apartheid millstone around our necks. Hone Harawira's outburst wasn't a minority view, but is an underlying factor in the stunting of NZ's prosperity. I think this in conjuction with the govt's ETS makes NZ economically unviable, and the place is doomed.
Message to Dr Sharples,
New Zealand, Maori and Pakeha are also deeply offended that you’ve been bribed into crippling NZ to a one world government through the Emissions Con.
Thanks for that Sharples

'Scientists' lied about the $WINE FLU and have lied about 'global warming'.
Check out www.theflucase.com
WHERE is the money going?
WHO will benefit?
Again, more legislation RAILROADED through - ROGERNOMIC$ style, serving the same BIG BUSINE$$ interests?
Puts a bit of a wobble in the works if the underpinning premise upon which the Emissions Trading Scheme was based - 'man-made' emissions which have led to global warming and climate change, is NOT based on FACTS and EVIDENCE!
Isn't that what science is supposed to be about?
SEEKING TRUTH FROM FACTS????
Why should the public pay extra for power or petrol when the reason for so doing has been based on a rort and a fraud?
Given that the earlier debates on the ETS were based on information from the UN International Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) -which has been discredited by the leaking of thousands of emails and documents from the IPCC-linked Climate Research Unit of East Anglia University - WHY WAS THIS ETS LEGISLATION RAILROADED THROUGH?
WHY weren't the fundamental premises behind the ETS revisited if the FACTS provided by the UN IPCC, upon which the NZ and other Governments were relying, were actually FICTION?
Shouldn't this ETS legislation be REPEALED forthwith??
The proposed Copenhagen Treaty will replace the Kyoto
agreement - both founded on the MYTH of 'man made' global warming and climate change.
Isn't it time to STOP THE BUS TO COPENHAGEN?
If the underpinning 'science' is WRONG and not based on the TRUTH and FACTS - shouldn't governments all over the world refuse to attend Copenhagen, and not sign ANYTHING?
Does ANYONE know what EXACTLY governments were planning to sign (away) at Copenhagen?????
Anyone got any of the 'devilish detail' on what EXACTLY is being proposed in the Copenhagen Treaty?

Goofy Goff is Toast with NZs indigenious people ki ora korua.
Everything the maori party does is racist by definition.
There should be no race based political parties.
Land ownership by non maori is rapidly become a farcical rental situation and it's obviously going to get worse.
I can remember a time when Philly Cough slated our Winston and Don Brash for playing the race card, but how well he has picked up the ball and run with it, a typical closet racist, only willing to do the Maori partys bidding when he and his dear leader old helen needed the extra votes. Users just users, and what for, so that they could go on making an utter mess of the country.
In my opinions our Philly is getting desperate so is playing to the racists in our society who are prepared to look only to the end of their noses.
What I see is John Key letting the maori have their way on certain things that seem to matter to them, once catered for, what else will these whining people have to moan about, without looking churlish and like spoilt brats, which is slowly what they are becoming.
We don't need old Philly to point that out, the working public of NZ already know that, and have very little if any respect for them or their traditions.
There are many ways of skinning the cat, and John Key is using them well.
Give them a rope long enough and they'll hang themselves, and may I live to see the day.
As for Philly give it up before it gives you up, you are starting to look what you are old and grey, with old and grey ideas.
Congratulation! We have another horific idea propagated out of no where! Al Gore the great American is certainly the champion!
We had this before in the days of the dark middle ages - some one yelled: The world is square! Do not sail to the west of the British isles or you will fall into that bottomless pit! And everyone believed it!
I can still hear that yell today. Can you?
I totally agree with the comments by Penny Bright above. The "Global Warming"/"Climate Change" nonsense has been discredited by many climate scientists and should not lead to these foolish decisions on Emission Trading Schemes to support existing vested interests. John Key should know better than to Jump on this bandwagon. This is bad for all New Zealanders. We will all suffer.
I'd never thought of the Maori Party as potentially being racist but since Hone's outburst I've begun to think it is.
Let's face it, if someone created a new political party and named it the Pakeha Party, there's no doubt that it would be racially motivated. It would have only the interests of white people at heart and not care about Maori, people from the Pacific islands or those from Asia. Who'd want such a party that was interested in only one segment of the population? Not me.
I don't like Goff as a polittion but I really do have to agree with his comments Re the maori party we are one people ,one nation , and untill we accept this we as a nation will never prosper
Hi Penny all your questions are answered either reading THE LATEST INVESTIGATE MAGAZINE OR CONTACTING IAN WISHART .
Penny: your questions relate to genuine cause for concern.
This is all the grossest societal crime, fraud and corruption known - on many levels.
1. This is about eroding property rights
2. There is no national/labour
3. Goff/Key/Smith - no difference - waste of time focusing on the charade here. Focus on the UN and back door games. Why do u think Copenhagen has gone underground?
4. There is no climate change
5. This is about dissolution of economic substance for the masses
6. All of this makes Hitler look like he was at kindi
5. There is the plotted erosion of human rights
6. Swine flu vaccine....don't take it..
why?
Goal: global population control/extermination
wake up people. wake up
The first few years of the previous Labour government were characterised by affirmative action policies and special support for Maori - remember "closing the gaps"?. Then Labour realised that the approach didn't go down particularly well with the wider electorate. Seems like the National-led government are slow learners. Meanwhile muggins the taxpayers pay and pay.
National are playing up to Maori as a lead up to getting rid of MMP. Maori are being conned and used by National as a way of achieving this and will be left powerless as once MMP goes the nats can then get rid of the maori seats more easily.
I would say Key is hoping to make the white electorate so mad/worried they will ditch MMP in a heartbeat.

Goofy Goff is toast with the indigenous people ,
Well goofy Anonymous
there are" NO"indigenous peoples to New Zealand,,,However there are a group of stone age immigrants to our country ..that think because they lobbed here first that they have special privileges, and successive governments have pandered to them for their votes.
Fortunately for New Zealand the day is fast approaching when these part brown spongers will be told to "POO OR GET OF THE POT."
Poor Phil is not flavour of the month but of course, he is dead right.
The huge irony is that Key and his cohorts label Phil racist for his speech, while they themselves are racist by their very actions. What could be more racist than favouring one section of society above the rest purely on the basis of race? TOTAL HYPOCRISY.
And as for Hone... Well, he is the tail that wags the Maori party dog that wags the National Party dog that wags New Zealand......
Isn't it ironic? - we never thought that by voting in MMP, we would be putting a racist thug in charge of our future.

Two political wings of the same bird to create nothing but a distraction so that world governance could be supplanted right under our noses. Yes - why has Copenhagen gone quiet? Because the damn media is control by the Global Elite Special Interests Groups or whatever the hell you call these bloody nazis.
Please watch this - an interview with Lord Monckton about the fraudulent imposition of a trading scheme to transfer wealth from the Western World to the under-developped countries. This is interesting: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=STEbtrCGOW8

When I gave my vote to John Key and the National Party last year, the last thing I expected was that they would use it to pander to a bunch of racists and to introduce racist legislation.
What could be more racist than low-income New Zealanders being denied home insulation because they are not Maori? No policy is worth such blatant racist favouritism.
Not only have Key and the National Party broken their pre-election promises - they have actually reversed them, particularly in light of the "Iwi-Kiwi" type propaganda used to influence us. What a betrayal of the very people who voted for them!
I wonder what other National voters think of this?
If things don't change in the National Government, I for one will be voting Act next time round.
Hi Zeke seems UTU will track you down and you will go back to your miserable existence denying the indigenious people of Aotearoa their birthright ,go back to your racist hovel,
Well, maybe Zeke needs to take a look at his "own" culture, whatever that is. For one, Britain has got a history of immigration to their shores, the Romans, being some of the more recent invaders. Using his analysis, the English, whatever that is, are not "indigenous" to Britain either, but are, in fact, an Angle/Saxon cacophany of invaders who probably are not privy to any land privilages like the Maori! Oh, and part brown sponges, well, Maori can be proud of their ancestty, even if they are so-called "part", and. boy, do pakeha HATE IT when their so-called superiority is brought into question by anyone of colour!
Cilla
Hi John Bull,
"denying you indigenous people of Aotearoa your birthright "
Well John Bullsh..t ...I suggest you Buy a dictionary and look up the word Indigenous and then read some real history .
Next thing is you will try and tell the Grand Sons and Daughters of the pioneers that built up this country ..That Santa Claus delivered your group to New Zealand from Wiki Wiki Land.
people. we can hap on all day about who came here first. who is owed what or not but, the bottom line is that what's going on around you - makes all that irrelevant.
1. any settlements Maori think they have, own or are owed will be squashed by the UN should they corrupt into existence the world government. remember clark hates the Maori.
2. the UN/world government are about squashing the rights of people to own property - hence the incoming land tax as a stage of that intent.
3. again any wealth we have or property we own is being targeted for removal. get used to the concept of living in a tent at best.
4. its really time for the hard questions to be asked - as time is running out. Copenhagen treaty - lisbon treaty!....have u read them. scary!
5. wake up and smell the coffee.
6. dubia financial crisis - one of the worlds richest nations...hmmmm . just the start.
7. what happens people another purposeful act like the credit crunch forces the banks collapse. guess what.
8. = total government intervention?
9. remember the governments in UK/US/AUS/NZ have already guaranteed to own the debt...! hmmmm
10. why do u think we've had 9 pieces of legislation that impose heavy taxation on a financially downtrodden society.
11. are we supposed to rely on the home heating programme for economic viability?
12. why would we even need home heating if it's a) cancelled out by the taxation in the emissions con and b) why need it if we have global warming (con). get the point yet?
time for some hard, hard, hard questions of key and co....but u may be lost with the waste of time any questions represent...
beware of what they do. not what they say.
wake up people
Hi Zeke jackboots with a name like yours i think you should be on trial in Nuremberg ,or maybe you have ,and have been living under the protection of the good people of AOTEAROA,KINDLY LEAVE YOUR ADDRESS AND WE WILL CHECK YOU OUT ,YOU COMMON LITTLE MAN OR RAT ,IT IS A PITY THAT YOU SUFFER FROM LOSERS SYNDROME,JUST LIKE THE REST OF YOUR BORN TO RULE SCUMBAGS.
'And boy do pakeha hate it when their so called superiority is braught into Question "Not so Silly Cilla"IT was Europeans who just voted a African American into Office in the USA,We WHITES Do admire people with brains ..have a nice day sweetie.
again people: you lesser both of yourselves if you think history, race or divisional thinking separates us.
again - there is no whitey vs. maori thing. their is none of that. there is no distinction.
it is society vs. the government. the government is the new terrorist.
the only issue now is whether or not main stream society can survive the consequences associated with the forthcoming one world government.
wake up people. wake up.
Get a dictionary Wee creep and learn how to spell "brought "and get your head out of your place where the sun don't shine,
Thelma &John & Zeta
there is ZERO point in this.
the government have planned on creating this tension. wake up. smell the coffee.
the creation of this tension is to distract from the fact:
destabilisation of the NZ economy to create the only place of salvation:
one world government.
again: the racial tension they have prompted is purposeful distraction: wake up
