Rebstock to chair new ACC board after government purge

BUSINESSDESK: Paula Rebstock will add to her workload as a busy fix-it person for the government after being named as the chair of a revamped Accident Compensation Corporation board.

Ms Rebstock, an existing member, will welcome new board members Trevor Janes, who will be deputy chairman, Auckland School of Medicine head Des Gorman and Kristy McDonald QC. The appointments are for three years.

A fourth new appointment is yet to be made, bringing the board to its full complement of eight.

ACC Minister Judith Collins said the appointments were aimed at "rebuilding the public's trust and confidence in the corporation".

The ranks of the board and executives have been purged in the fallout of privacy breaches that came to light because of the case of ACC claimant and National Party stalwart Bronwyn Pullar, whose supporters included former National president Michelle Boag and former ACC Minister Nick Smith.

"My appointments today underline the government's commitment to genuine culture change, and will lead to a more balanced and comprehensive approach to the governance and operation of ACC," Miss Collins says.

Ms Rebstock's current roles include being chairwoman of the Work and Income board, deputy chairwoman of the New Zealand Railways Corp and chairwoman of the Insurance and Savings Ombudsman Commission.

She previously chaired the Commerce Commission.

What a bunch of lightweights.

you obviously have no idea what you are talking about

ACC is a multi-billion dollar business. It involves not only an insurance business but also a multi-billion dollar investment portfolio. Please show me any evidence that Rebstock, Gorman, or McDonald know anything about the business of business. Its laughable that Collins dumped proper business people for this motley crew of academics, doctors and lawyers.

I agree Rebstock was next to useless at the Com Com and is unlikely to have the ability to fix the fundamental flaws at ACC.

Collins is a control freak and wants 'yes-men' - and this is what she has purchased off the government's 'list of approved political appointees'.

Maybe Paula could do herself a HUGE service and quietly look into just how much funding the various unions received from ACC for "Training" during the previous 9 year rule from Labour...

It would make for some interesting statistics to see just how much of an increase the unions received once the Labour Party had their snouts fully burried in the tax payer wallet.

It's Millions and millions each year - but did the unions enjoy a huge increase once Labour become government and had the ability to stall/deflect/defer/disappear any "enquiry" as to their funding and any possible corruption...

Could Paula please ask -
What was achieved / delivered for these millions?
Who was accountable?
Who was over-seeing the delivery of this "training" for whose benefit?

A number of unions / "incorporated societies" are operating illegally because they haven't filed correct yearly acounts - some since 2006 (Meat Workers Union - it's on their own website)

So who is over-seeing this "related party" funding rort going on between the unions who fund Labour and Labour who appointed senior management into ACC - who then in turn offer millions to the "unions" for "training"

Related Party Ponzi scheme making Bernie Madoff exceedingly envious!

Surely the authorities must wake up sometime at the wheel?

please nail your colours to the mast and tell us who you would have appointed instead of Rebstock,Gorman and Mc Donald

easy to criticise but no constructive alternatives
