Sony’s clamshell Android tablet heading for NZ

Sony’ originally previewed its iPad competitors – the clamshell Tablet P and the more conventional Sony Tablet S - back on April 27.

Now, the company is readying the two Android tablets for international release.

Some countries will see them later this month.

Sony NZ says the S should be with us in November (wi-fi only for NZ; in the US a 4G model is expected on one carrier), the P early next year (in wi-fi and 3G models).

The S will work best for customers already the Sony camp – especially given its Bluetooth and infrared (IR) ports, designed for connecting to and controlling a PlayStation3 or Sony Bravia TV.

Watch for more Android action later this month, or October, when The Wall Street Journal and others are picking that Amazon will supplement its Kindle with an Android-based tablet, specc'd to match the iPad but priced as low as $US300.
