Telecom gets iPhone!

Or, at least one iPhone.

At Telecom’s results briefing today, investment analysts duly asked the perennial question: when is the company’s mobile supremo, Paul Hamburger, going to secure Apple’s iPhone for XT?

And Telecom chief executive Paul Reynolds replied with his usual line about not commenting on handset negotiations - although he did say his company was happy with its current line-up.

Apparently not so happy with the current line up was Chorus chief executive Mark Ratcliffe, who was spied totting an iPhone.

Unsure of the sighting, NBR’s special Apple correspondent questioned one of Mr Ratcliffe’s fellow executives later in the day.

“It’s entirely possible. Yes, I think he does,” came the reply.

The executive, who cannot be identified, beyond the fact his first name begins with C and his last name is Quin, has also been spotted several occasions using Apple’s handset.

Throw in the fact that Telecom chief executive Paul Reynolds is a confirmed Apple nut, and that 2degrees chief executive Eric Hertz carries an iPhone, and one thing is clear: there maybe a single official carrier (Vodafone), but everybody’s heart belongs to Apple.

I mean, c'mon - who really cares!

The best option for iPhone at Hampton Downs is XT by far, otherwise Vodafone's signal and plans are more than acceptable. Looking forward to 3G on 2 Degrees...

RE: Hampton Downs

The only reason the iPhone is best on XT - is because Apple have only so far released a 2100 / 850Mhz UMTS version.

Any other phone that supports 2100 / 900Mhz UMTS on the Vodafone Network gets brilliant 3G coverage at Hampton Downs.

I bet my bottom dollar that Apple will *finally* release a Quad band UMTS phone, in the next incarnation of the iPhone, due for release later this year.

Then - finally - the iPhone will work well on both Vodafone & XT & utilise 3G where each carrier has it available. Both Networks advertise coverage to 97% of where NZer's Live / Work & Play.

Old news, not news boring. Meh! Need anyone say anything more? I hope the stuff behind the paywall is better because so far the free tech stories are garbage

@G
Yeah I know that already, so does everybody else.
Doesn't change the fact that RIGHT NOW I have two SIM cards for my iPhone.

Chances of Apple releasing a Quad band UMTS iPhone? Absolutely zero! Chances of a second EU version with 900/2100MHz ? Maybe. I was expecting that last time round actually and it didn't happen then either.

I posted the info' for the people that didn't know & despite your claims, there are many non-tech minded poeple that don't know about the intricacies of the Vodafone & XT Networks & the frequencies they use. I encounter this everyday.

I only wish I could place a real bet with you on the next iPhone supporting both 2100/900Mhz UMTS - if I could, I might be rich. If I'm wrong then you can keep the money :)

Shouldn't this story say 'Telecom staff memeber gets iphone'. no wonder i removed you guys from my favourites.

Matt Crockett also uses an iPhone

You clearly do not run a business - most of us are fed up with Hamburger and that pompous ghit Reynolds. We want iPhone NOW!!!
