Telecom yanks Chris Knox clip off YouTube

Telecom has removed a video clip from YouTube that promoted the company’s new logo.

The clip featured Chris Knox’s “It’s love” as it’s backing track - the same Kiwi song used by Heineken in a campaign recently launched in the US.

NBR 24/7 featured the Telecom and Heineken videos side-by-side in a story yesterday afternoon, the better for readers to judge the audio crossover between the phone and beer campaigns.

Today, however, Telecom has removed its clip from YouTube.

Spokeswoman Julia Bell told NBR this morning: “[The] clip was an internal video, and we don’t quite know how it got leaked.” It’s possible a Telecom staffer uploaded the clip, said Ms Bell, but not in any official capacity.

It was taken off YouTube because Telecom had yet to secure permission from all the staff in the clip, and their children, for it to appear online.

Once approvals are sorted, the clip may or may not be put back on YouTube.

Public promotion of the logo will take a different tack.

“There will be a different story told for the ad campaign and not sure if it will go up again. We are trying, but it really depends if people are happy to see themselves and their kids on YouTube or not,” said Ms Bell.
