The Magic is back: Vodafone puts Google phone back onsale

Just like that, Google-gate is over. Vodafone says the HTC Magic will be back on sale later today.

In a one line statement, the company says:

“The issue is resolved - stock will be available again in stores and online today.”

Yesterday, spokesman Paul Brislen said a “Vodafone commercial issue” had led to the much-hyped handset being withdrawn from sale.

In the wake of any official explanation, rumours ran riot. Had Google taken offense to its logo appearing on body painted models at the launch party? Was Apple throwing its weight around? HTC and Vodafone in a payment dispute? Or were changes in the Earth's magnetic polarity to blame?

Today, Vodafone still refuses to elaborate if it was a problem with Google, the phone’s manufacturer HTC, or some other factor.

HTC Sales and Marketing Director for HTC Australia and New Zealand Anthony Petts offered little beyond "We do not comment on the businesses of our carriers and partners”.

Mr Petts did confirm for NBR that the HTC Magic remained onsale at Vodafone Australia throughout, but refused to comment further.

Google did not respond to questions.

At time of writing, the Magic had yet to return to Vodafone's website.
