Top Gear stig is unmasked
It looks as though The Stig has been unmasked.
The Stig is the anonymous star of the BBC Series Top Gear, always appearing in a white racing suit and helmet, but never revealing his face.
It has become a trademark of the show that The Stig’s identity is never revealed.
It has long been suspected that he may have been Formula One world champion Damon Hill.
But British media reports say that he is Ben Collins who began his racing career in 1994 and drove to Formula Three level.
The reports, some of which are from such worthy agencies as Reuters, go on to say that his identity was sprung when he went to a photographic studio to commission a series of prints of The Stig in action.
The BBC is refusing to comment. But a BBC insider is quoted as saying
that the reports are “bloody annoying.”
Collins was linked with the successful TV programme when he was reported to be a consultant to Top Gear in a Health and Safety report following the high speed crash of Richard Hammond in 2006.
A previous Stig was fired off the deck of a naval ship after allowing his identity to be revealed. It is not known how the programme plans to handle the current gaffe if it is indeed true that Ben Collins is the Stig.
The Stig is due in New Zealand in February as part of the Top Gear Live show to be staged in Auckland.

It is not Ben Collins,now he was in that role once he wrote a book "i am stig " and was dumped from the show for his trouble

The Stig's identity is actually that of Geoffrey Best an unkown immigrant to London whoworked on the BBC series set for years developing his skill. Under the training of the"black stig whose identiy is now well know he woul dlater become his succesor

Who ever he is, when he drove that racing Aston Martin to beat the German bloke at the race track in Belgium, shows what an ace driver he is. I don't know about not smelling cheese, but he smells no fear!
I've just googled it. Apparently the Stig is Ben Collins, Tim Schrick, Sabine Schmitz, Nigel Mansell, Lewis Hamilton, Damon Hill, Jenson Button, Colin McRae, Robin Hood, Jonathan Ross and Judas Iscariot.
That's cleared that up then.
it dosent matter who the stig as long as he is one hell of a diver like the way he drove that aston dbrs9 to kil germany that was gud. so i dont know who he is. but i would like to meet him and jeremy richard and james cuz they are funnie guy. peaces out peoplr
1) Ben Collins was suspiciously present when the Renault F1 car was driven around the TG track.
2) Ben Collins happened to be the driver of the Mercede Benz SL in which a parachuted man tried to land.
3) Ben Collins piloted a Bowler Wildcat and Evo against a wooly teen in Wales.
4) He was also involved in the investigation of Hammonds crash and is a contractor that offers driving services for the show.
But Ben isn't my hero, the Stig is :)
