Twitter partners with NBC on ad-supported Olympics page
Twitter is going for gold - or at least a little revenue - with a website that will collect tweets from Olympics athletes, plus personalities from US broadcaster NBC.com.
The social network told The Wall Street Journal it would receive no money from NBC, but it has sold ads on its Olympics site to GE, Procter and Gamble and other advertisers.
Twitter claims around 140 million users, but a study quoted by the Journal says it will generate just $US260 million revenue this year compared to Facebook's $US311 milllion for 2011.
Twitter's Olympics website will go live wiht the opening ceremony in London, Friday night UK time (Saturday 8am NZ time).

how about it NBR? If twatter can do it then how about looking at other moneterization methods as the paywall is as painful as it is stupid
This is an interesting article showing the trend today of merging news agencies and networking sites. The writer cleverly shows – without revealing any opinions – the irony of the news agency stating that is “would receive no money from NBC” and yet having “sold ads on its Olympics site to GE, Procter and Gamble and other advertisers”. Another demonstration of the writer's subtly critical technique comes from the contrast between the supposed “140 million viewers” claimed by twitter and the reported potential drop in earnings.
I wonder what exactly is the big deal in partnering with NBC? Many athletes and personalities are already on Twitter with their own following. So why only NBC and its personalities? Or are there others we don't know about?
Those who follow the Olympic would be delighted to find that Twitter is complementing their Olympic experiences by allowing them to track the events anytime of the day. They do not need to worry about missing any moments as oppose as to just relying on television and media coverage as twitter is a live feed.
