Insurance for unexpected death being offered by Tony's Tyre Service is receiving plenty of online interest, company general manager Steve Lange says.

Tony's started offering insurance in May, with Mr Lange saying the product drew on the company's large customer base.

"With tyres being a huge safety component of the vehicle, I thought it would be a nice fit," Mr Lange told The Dominion Post.

The policies were offered with insurance company Pinnacle Life and customers could sign up online.

The policies had received large numbers of web hits since the May launch, but Mr Lange would not say how many people had bought them.
