Union wants Employment Court ruling
UPDATED: The Maritime Union's Employment Court hearing challenging the legality of the Ports of Auckland decision to contract out jobs is set for the 26th of March.
The Maritime Union wants a ruling from the Employment Court on the legality of the Ports of Auckland decision to contract out jobs.
The union questions whether or not it is legal for jobs to be made redundant while parties are negotiating an employment agreement relating to jobs.
It argues that under its collective bargaining agreement the decision to contract out was equivalent to an illegal lockout.
MUNZ president Garry Parsloe says union members from across the country as well as representatives from Australian, Dutch and American workers unions would attend a demonstration at Britomart on Saturday.

WEll yes As usual the dummies who are members of Union havent the brain power to understand they are merely pawns in the Union hands so they are able to play out their games of power politics. Poor sods dont get paid lose their jobs and fat cat Union bosses get paid drive big flash cars and dont give a rats about the workers
The union will not accept any court that rules against its favour. The union is fighting for credibility at all costs even if it ruins the country.
POAL would look a bit stupid if a ruling went against them - I would imagine they have had very good advice on this.
