Vodafone’s Rushworth resigns; Stanners takes marketing control
Vodafone New Zealand chief marketing officer Mark Rushworth has surprised colleagues by announcing his resignation.
“He came back from Christmas after surfing and growing a beard and announced he was leaving,” an insider told NBR.
As first reported by NBR, Vodafone New Zealand chief executive Russell Stanners has taken direct control of the telco’s marketing team while the search is on for a replacement.
In an email to Vodafone staff, praising Mr Rushworth’s contribution over the past three years, Mr Stanners said “[Mark] is planning to take a well-deserved summer break and enjoy the sunshine, sand and surf before deciding what’s next.”
Mr Rushworth (pictured, pre-beard) became chief executive of ihug after founders Tim and Nick Wood sold to Australian ISP iiNet.
iiNet subsequently sold ihug to Vodafone in October 2006, with Mr Rushworth joining the telco’s marketing team.
Mr Rushworth previously worked as a marketing manager for Telecom Mobile.
His last day at Vodafone is this Friday.

Sounds like Mark has decided to live his life a bit more. I have nothing but admiration for him for doing this - well done dude!
Sounds like Mark has had a job offer and consistent with his contract most likely has to stand down for 6 months before taking up that job if it is with another telco. On holiday for 6 months and getting paid by two multinationals, nice work if you can get it. Good on ya.
I'm concerned @ Russell Stanners extra job as head of marketing at VF - “I don’t believe in IPTV,” http://tinyurl.com/yek2pom
Let's hope he ain't in it this position for too long.
Hurry up & launch HSPA+ Russell !!! Plus new Mobile Data Plans - how about this:
10GB for $100 - 15GB for $120 - 10 cents per MB overage?
Or at least they said they did. Didn't they get that out there yet?
There is Official Media Release on the Telecom website stating that the HSPA+ Network is live (& they would definitely tell everyone if it was) & NBR ran a pay per view article saying they would not meet that goal.
I have seen no HSPA+ Speed Tests on any forums, including Geekzone.
So, no - I don't believe their HSPA+ is currently active to consumers at the moment.
Please could the new marketing manager (or even Mr Stanners address the issue of iphone plans being unable to access additional texts? I know it's a tiny insignificant issue in the big scheme of things but if I get another massive bill I'm going to have to look at alternative solutions.
