Wellington's warship hum heads to Auckland
"Auckland is humming anyway and a bit more hum will be barely noticed."
Featured commentAucklanders could be about to get a taste of Wellington’s mysterious hum.
The low-decibel hum has been plaguing concerned residents in the Wellington suburbs of Mt Victoria, Mt Cook and Newtown since Sunday morning.
City council staff have received more than 20 calls as a result and a handful of emails.
However, council spokesman Richard MacLean thinks they have found the source of the hum – Singaporean frigate RSS Stalwart.
The frigate has been docked at Wellington’s Queens Wharf since Saturday, coinciding with a three-day visit by Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong.
Mr MacLean told NBR ONLINE it appears the hum was coming from the ship’s power generator.
The Stalwart left for Auckland last night and will arrive there tomorrow.
Mr MacLean says there have not been any new complaints from residents overnight.
He says it will be interesting to find out if Aucklanders hear the same hum.

Will Aucklanders actually notice there is a foreign ship in the harbour let alone a hum in their self absorbed lives ?
Self absorbed? Where are you from - Eketahuna?? We actually have ridiculously busy lives, you cretin!
what a pointless, self serving narrowminded comment.
ha ha, funny guy. Not.
Yes we will. What we will not notice is the usual hum from Wellington.
Was that supposed to be funny?
Sorry Teldar, we probably won't be able to hear it over the incessant whining from down country or the sound of moving trucks bringing more new Aucklanders in from the provinces
it's not a "low decibel hum" but a low frequency hum with a significant subsonic component. A low decibel hum is one of low volume, the noise in Wellington is typically noticeable during a wind free day where the subsonic component is not diminished by wind noise displacement.
Auckland is humming anyway and a bit more hum will be barely noticed.

My apologies to my Auckland friends for any offence caused by my tounge-in-cheek (or more rightly foot in mouth) comment I just wanted to see if anyone was reading and was curious to see what would happen :-)
And here I thought it was "The band leader's daughter.."
"Ho hum," when will this little country realize that we are ALL part of it.
If we could mobilize that latent intellectual talent lying fallow over the length and breadth of this fair land we could really get this place,
HUMMING.
We were a very successful team last year, lets magnify that spirit shall we??
The hum is coming from David Shearer dreaming up schemes of how to make trivial items a concern to the NZ public
Still reckon its Skinny Mobile's new sound system taking over the country!!!!
I got woken up this morning at 7:30 by a sound that is described as the mystery hum. Is the ship in Auckland yet?
