What Am I Worth?

What Am I Worth is one of two features that will now run weekly, giving NBR Online readers additional insight into salary expectations and newly-filled positions in today's job market.

The job: 6 degrees consulting director Chris McKinney said there was currently a high demand for experienced structural engineers.

The profile: A structural engineer with a BE, 5 to 8 years experience in building structures design, and experience working across a range of commercial projects.

The salary: Between $70,000 to $95,000.

The upgrade: Mr McKinney said salary improvement within the Kiwi market was simply down to experience and whether the person chose to become a chartered engineer.

You are worht whatever someone will pay you. Personally I see accountants and financial analysts worth very little as they actually create no value and only serve to extract value. This does ot help economic growth. There was a study out of UCL that indicated lawyers and accountants actually cost societies whereas laborers, tradesmen and the like are positive to economic growth. No wonder with all the bankers, accountants and lawyers the world is in deep poo.
