Yet another phone maker backs Google: LG’s Android plans
On Friday it was Motorola. Now LG has become the latest A-list phone maker to announce a model that will run on Google’s mobile operating system, Android.
LG offered few details of its Android handset, dubbed the LG-GW620, other than that it has a three-inch touchscreen and Qwerty keyboard. It also released an oblique picture (above).
The LG-GW620 is expected to be released in Europe before Christmas. Timing for other markets has yet to be announced. Spreading its bets, the Korean company also announced plans for a series of models over the next 18 months based on Microsoft’s Windows Mobile OS.
Sony Ericsson has also announced it will support Android, but has yet to provide any details of its line-up.
Currently, the only Android-based phone on the market is HTC’s Magic (aka the G2), sold in New Zealand by Vodafone (read NBR’s review here).
