No such thing as a free flight, Comcom finds

The Commerce Commission has warned Flight Centre about a promotional campaign that could breach the Fair Trading Act for telling people they could "fly for free".

The commission has issued warnings in relation to Flight Centre New Zealand’s advertising between May and September 2009.

The warnings were for Flight Centre’s “Fly for free” promotion, airfares not being available for the advertised price and the insufficiency of additional cost disclosure.

Flight Centre has been running the “Fly for free” promotion since June.

TrustPower guilty of misleading customers - fined $17,000

The Commerce Commission has fined electricity company TrustPower $17,000 for misleading customers over its power bill review service.

On Wednesday in the Tauranga District Court, the listed company (NZX:TPW) pleaded guilty to breaching the Fair Trading Act.

Judge Christopher Harding said the offending was careless commercial conduct.

Its power bill review, announced in May 2005, involved ‘reviewing’ customer power bills and advising them of the cheapest price option for their needs.

The maker of a bogus pill that falsely claimed to enhance women’s breast size has been handed a hefty fine for breaching the Fair Trading Act.

Erdic Ltd and its manager Allan Mitchell were fined a total of $100,000 in the Auckland District Court today after the Commerce Commission took action over misleading advertising.

The company had made claims in a brochure and on two websites that a pill called Erdic was a natural alternative to breast implants and could significantly and permanently increase the size, shape and firmness of women's breasts.
