Australian govt-backed fund offers $A50m for carbon capture, storage

The Global Carbon Capture and Storage Institute has announced a $A50 million annual fund to support large-scale projects around the world.

Applications are open until January 8, 2010.

The institute, funded by the Australian Federal Government, has members including over 30 countries and 130 companies. New Zealand was a founding member.

Its role is to help accelerate CCS projects globally, said chief executive Nick Otter.

Carbon capture has role in NZ - global institute

The Global Carbon Capture and Storage Institute’s annual $A100 million fund will soon be available to New Zealand projects.

Speaking at the Clean Energy Summit and Expo tomorrow in Auckland, CCSI chief executive Nick Otter will outline details of the fund and hopes to encourage joint government and private enterprise investment into CCS.

The institute, funded by the Australian Federal Government, became a legal entity in July 2009 and has members including more than 30 countries and 130 companies. New Zealand was a founding member.
