AUT University has signed a 10-year contract to track flights for SpaceX - starting with last night's historic first private flight to the International Space Station. 

AUT University’s Dr Roy Davies finds minor, major and, yes, potentially lethal problems with 3D television technology.

They range from tired eyes to nausea to hay-fever like symptoms to potential inability to properly judge distances.

It's not news that will be welcomed by the big-three pushing 3D TV here - Panasonic, Samsung and Sony.

The NZ World Internet Project Survey of over 1200 New Zealanders has
revealed that 83% are now using the Internet, up from 79% in 2007.

More significantly, the proportion of internet users using broadband has risen to 82% by September 2009, up from 67% in 2007, with dial-up use declining.

The finding indicates there must be a lot of sharing going on.

The most recent data released by the Commerce Commission, after polling telcos and ISPs, found that New Zealand had 981,000 broadband connections, as of June 2009 - a 7% increase over the past half year.

ANZACS PHONE HOME: The science fiction of a massive array of 5000 dishes is about to become science fact, and if an Australia-New Zealand bid is successful, 40 radio telescopes like AUT University's in Warkworth (pictured above) will be built here, at $2 million a pop. NZ's share of the tab would be around $150 million.

Chinese blogger Isaac Mao will visit AUT next week as part of a whirlwind tour of New Zealand’s journalism schools.

Mr Mao will briefly be in Auckland to speak on social media and blogging. His visit has been sponsored by the Asia New Zealand Foundation, and the Auckland leg of the tour will be hosted by AUT’s Centre for Journalism, Media and Democracy.
