Google's NZ search share remains above 90% - Hitwise

With Microsoft doing little to launch its new search engine, Bing.com, in New Zealand, Google's out-size local market share continues - at least according to statistics Hitwise has collected from its panel of 460,000 Kiwi surfers.

The Australian-based market researcher's May figures show the US and NZ iterations of Google holding 91.5% marketshare - actually down a snick from April's 92.5%, but still miles ahead of the 60% to 70% that the search giant holds in most territories.

Microsoft Bing, WolframAlpha hook-up

Google & Yahoo ceding market share to Bing

Microsoft’s Bing search engine has grown for the second consecutive month, rising to 8.9% from 8.4%, while Google and Yahoo both lost 0.3% each.

ComScore’s latest US figures showed search leader Google declining to 64.7% from 65% in June, and second-ranked Yahoo easing to 19.3%, from 19.6%, though they remain an order of magnitude ahead of Microsoft’s product, which grabbed 8% market share in May when it launched.

Bing adds a person's latest tweet to search results

Gaining an edge over Google, Microsoft’s new search engine now lets you see a person’s latest tweets when you search for their name. Well, at least some people.

Gaining an edge over Google, Microsoft’s relaunched search engine, Bing, has added embedded Twitter links to its results.

That means when you search for a person’s name - even if you don’t mention Twitter - you’ll see their latest tweet at or near the top of the list.

Microsoft Bing gains share - again - but so does Google

For a second week in a row, Microsoft’s re-launched search engine has gained market share - this time by 2.2%. But it could be a case of lies, damned lies and statistics.

Microsoft gets a bounce from Bing

Microsoft’s search engine, which was renamed, retooled and relaunched last week, has gained on Google - a little - according to the latest ComScore.

Microsoft gained in US search market share to 11.1% with Bing’s debut last week.
The previous week, Microsoft had 9.1% share.
