Kindle DX arrives to save the newspaper industry

As rumoured over the past two days, Amazon has unwrapped a super-sized version of its e-book reader.

The new jumbo-size Kindle Deluxe (or DX) has a 9.7-inch (26cm) screen, which Amazon - and launch event partner The New York Times - pitch as more convenient for newspapers, and textbooks, than the smaller Kindle 2.

The Kindle DX  (Amazon image left) also has a super-sized price - $US489, or $US130 more than the Kindle 2 and initially will only be available in the US.
