Horn to use shoe leather in bid to save strong wool industry

Murray Horn is a man on a mission and the hope will be that it’s not an impossible one.

The National Health Board chairman was tapped by Agriculture Minister David Carter to act as a wool industry convenor, announced this week.

Dr Horn’s role of the next few weeks is to speak with up to 40 wool industry representatives in an attempt to find some common ground on which a brand new industry body could be based.

Horn to pull wool industry together

With the ink barely dry on Agriculture Minister David Carter’s wool taskforce report, a convenor has been appointed to focus on one of its fundamental recommendations.

Mr Carter has announced the appointment of former Treasury secretary Murray Horn to lead the work toward forming a single body for the New Zealand wool industry.

Dr Horn is the chairman of the National Health Board and is on the board of Telecom. He has held senior executive roles with ANZ and was chief executive of the bank’s New Zealand operations.

Health review head appointed advisory chair

The government has appointed leader of its health ministerial review as chair of an advisory group on the new National Health Board.

Dr Murray Horn led the review group that suggested a new national body.

Health minister Tony Ryall said the makeup of the National Health Board would be decided in the next few weeks, but would include senior doctors and nurses.

Move to streamline DHB support work

The Government will today announce a new agency to look at moving back office functions of the country's 21 district health boards into a separate body.

Health Minister Tony Ryall will announce Government decision's on recommendations of a review of the health system headed by former Treasury Secretary Murray Horn about 12.30 today.

Sources say the board would look at removing back office work, including procurement, from DHBs.

Some Health Ministry work and funding would devolve to DHBs.
