Ryman announces new $90m village

Retirement village company Ryman Healthcare has announced that it will soon be building a new retirement village in Christchurch to house 450 residents.

On an 11ha site, the village will be located at East Ellington Drive.

It will have resort style facilities including a movie theatre, gym, hair and beauty salons, a library and bowling green.

The village will consist of a mix of service apartments, independent townhouses, hospital, dementia care and a resthome.

Ryman pays $2m for leaky repairs and makeover

Ryman Healthcare is spending $2 million on a major overhaul of its Grace Joel retirement village after discovering leaks in some of its units.

Ryman chief executive Simon Challies says 15-20 out of the 69 units at the village are leaky and they are being fixed, at the company’s cost, as part of a makeover of the entire complex.

NBR visited Grace Joel on Friday.

Several different buildings were completely covered in scaffolding and tradesmen were working on a variety of tasks including recladding entire units, and replacing window frames.
