A move to allow Taiwanese nationals three-months' visa-free travel to New Zealand has prompted a review of suspended direct air services.

Taipei-owned Eva Air ended its direct flights in the middle of last year, citing lower passengers numbers at the height of the global credit crunch.

HP readies Google Android netbook

The world’s largest PC maker is reportedly testing a budget laptop that runs not on Windows, or Linux, but Google operating system software.

Satjiv Chahil, a vice president of HP's PC division, confirmed today that his company is trialling a new computer running on Google’s Android OS.

However, Mr Chahil told The Wall Street Journal that his company has not yet decided whether to go to market with the product.

Apple netbook on the way - and it’s a touchscreen

Reports in the Taiwanese press detail how Apple has been ordering touch panels for a coming netbook form-factor device.

DigiTimes, quoting the Chinese-language Commercial Times says “Taiwan-based Wintek will supply touch panels for Apple's new netbook, and shipments will start in the third quarter this year.”

RoamAD in Taiwan nuke deal

RoamAD has disclosed for the first time that in March this year its local partner T-COM deployed  a multi-spectrum, infrastructure-mesh RoamAD network at a large nuclear power plant in Taiwan. The RoamAD network is used to backhaul voice traffic around the nuclear facility.

“Using RoamAD’s network solution, we were able to cost-effectively deploy a wireless network in a difficult radio frequency environment, yet still maintain low latency for perfect voice quality,” says T-COM general manager Oscar Huang.
