VMware’s investment into the New Zealand market shows how much confidence the company has in the Australian region and in the country, newly appointed NZ manager Tim Dacombe-Bird says.

New Zealand is one of the most virtualised countries in the world and VMware wants to make local clouds more accessible to businesses here, Mr Dacombe-Bird said.

For the first time ever, a New Zealand regional manager has been appointed. Before the position was shared with Australia meaning the local face of the company was based across the ditch.

The collaboration between global technology giants EMC, Cisco and VMware promises to reduce the cost of virtualisation for businesses of all sizes, EMC says.

The companies have come together to share their technology with one another and create a product that simplifies virtualisation technology for the consumer.

Global virtualisation provider VMware warned against downloading free software from companies such as Microsoft as it will cost more money in the long run.

Mainly thanks to giant server farms - and their voracious cooling requirements - the computer industry is responsible for around 2.5% of the world's carbon emissions, according to IDC - putting it on a par with the airline industry.
