SFO head calls for single white-collar crime agency

Serious Fraud Office head Adam Feeley wants to see single law enforcement agency created to tackle white collar crime.

Speaking at a conference on white collar crime and serious fraud in Auckland today, he also said a national fraud strategy was needed to help coordinate counter-fraud activity.

Mr Feeley, who became SFO chief executive in November last year, said the SFO worked largely in isolation and priorities often conflicted with the police, the Companies Office, the Securities Commission.

White collar season looms for district court

It may be P-related cases that are clogging the High Court but Private Bin thinks white collar cases might have to start taking some of the responsibility for any slow down at district court level.

The first half of 2010 is set to become a timetabling nightmare at the Auckland District Court with lengthy first hearings being set down for the likes of the Bridgecorp, National Finance and Feltex directors.
