Will a femtocell zap my brain?
Keallhauled's coverage about femtocells has caused a storm of reader reaction, especially from those who see any cell site as a health hazard.
A typical comment: “I have no interest in adding to the radiation circulating around my house.”
Alcatel Lucent’ Dr Malek Shahid, a senior manager in his company’s femtocell group, said a wi-fi router has a peak transmit power of around 100 milliwatts, while a 3G cellphone can output 200 milliwatts - well within the electromagnetic emission safety guidelines set by New Zealand’s National Radiation Laboratory and other bodies.
A femtocell, by contrast, has a transmit power of around 20 milliwatts, and often outputs just 1 milliwatt. The proximity of the home environment means relatively little signal power is required, said Dr Shahid.

ZOMG! Radiation! It must be banned! Quick, let's put out the sun!
Can you please all stop being stupid for a moment and think about what radiation actually is.
If you were really worried about cellphone towers and the like and their "radiation" you'd best start lobbying to have all the TV and AM radio transmitters removed because they put out thousands of times more EMF than a cellphone tower.
I'd be more concerned about catching a VD off a toilet seat than I would about femtocells.
Leave the house with that nasty beast, the Sun, spewing its filthy radiation every where.
EMF... now that's a blast from the musical past.
err.. agree with the above comments too. Bigger things to worry about.
Will a femtocell zap my brain? obviously your brain already has been if you are worried about it.
I saw EMF play at the Auckland town hall - the support was Supergroove, who blew them off the stage.
