The March quarter survey shows economic recovery broadening beyond Auckland and Christchurch.

The economy surged in the December quarter to the best level since mid-2007.

"The recovery remains disappointing," principal economist NZIER Shamubeel Eaqub says. "Auckland is growing, but the post-quake surge in Canterbury is moderating and activity elsewhere is slowing."
